Public process documentation

Transparent process. Read exactly what we'll do before you pay.

Every step of the Remediation Sprint, the exact Shopify permissions we ask for, the checks we run and what we never touch. The binding version is in the service terms.

Step by step

The 10-day sprint

The 10 business days start once you've approved our collaborator request and sent the intake form. Everything happens in writing; there is no call unless you ask for one.

  1. Order and intake Day 0 · 10 minutes for you

You pay the $1,450 deposit and fill in a short intake form: your theme, your apps, the pages that matter most, and any deadline from your lawyer.

  2. Collaborator request Day 0 · 1 click for you

We send a standard Shopify collaborator request from our Shopify Partner account. You approve it in your admin. No passwords, and you can revoke it at any time. See the exact permissions.

  3. Duplicate theme Day 1

We duplicate your live theme into an unpublished copy, named "A11Y Sprint" with the date. All work happens on this copy. Your live store keeps running unchanged.

  4. Baseline audit Days 1–2

We test 8 core templates on the copy and record every issue with the page, the element and a screenshot. This is the "before" in your report. See what we test.

  5. Fix and re-test Days 2–8

We change the theme's Liquid, CSS and JavaScript, then re-run the checks after each round. Every change is version-controlled, so it can be reviewed and reverted.

  6. Alt text drafts In parallel · your approval

We draft descriptions for up to 150 product images in a spreadsheet. Nothing is applied until you approve it.

  7. Manual QA Days 8–9

A person works through the store by keyboard and with a screen reader, using a fixed checklist. Anything that fails goes back to the fix step.

  8. Delivery By day 10

You get the preview link, the dated report for your counsel and a draft accessibility statement as a hidden page. You review, pay the balance and publish the theme yourself, when you're ready.

Permissions

Access we ask for, and what we don't

Shopify lets you choose exactly which areas a collaborator can see. We request only what the work needs.

We request Needed

  • Themes: to duplicate and edit the unpublished copy
  • Pages: to create the hidden accessibility statement
  • Navigation: to fix menu labels
  • Products: only to apply the alt text you approved
  • Files: for images used by the theme

We don't request Never

  • Orders, customers or any customer data
  • Payments, payouts or billing
  • Checkout or store settings
  • Apps, or the code of any app
  • Your password or staff account

When the order, the fix window and any monitoring end, we remove our access or ask you to remove it. Our copy of your theme code is deleted 90 days after the fix window closes, unless you have a monitoring plan.

Test protocol

What we test

Templates in scope: home, collection, product, cart (drawer or page), search, account and login, contact and forms, and the header, navigation and footer.

Automated: WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA rules with axe-core, run on every template before and after the fixes.

Manual checklist, worked through by a person on the preview theme:

  • The skip link appears on the first Tab and jumps to the main content
  • Focus is visible on every interactive element on home, collection, product and cart
  • Menu, search, cart drawer and pop-ups open and close by keyboard; Escape closes; focus returns to where it was
  • Variant selectors, quantity and add-to-cart work by keyboard
  • The screen reader announces the price and the selected variant
  • Cart quantity changes and removals are announced; checkout is reachable
  • Meaningful images have descriptions; decorative images stay silent
  • Form labels are read out and errors are announced
  • No sideways scrolling at 320 pixels wide; usable at 200% zoom
  • Colour contrast on buttons, sale badges and placeholders

What a test can't tell you. Automated tools find only part of all possible barriers, so we combine them with the manual checklist. Shopify's checkout and third-party app widgets are outside the theme code. We test them where they appear, document what we find and give you notes for each vendor. See the sample report for the format.

Guardrails

What we never do

  • Edit or publish your live theme. You decide if and when the fixed theme goes live.
  • Install an overlay widget or any new app.
  • Change checkout, payments, store settings or any app's code.
  • Apply alt text or publish the accessibility statement without your approval.
  • Claim your store is "compliant", "certified" or protected from lawsuits. We report what was tested, found, changed and still open.
  • Name you as a client without your written permission.
After delivery

Review, publish, and 60 days of cover

  • 14-day review: tell us within 14 days if anything in scope is missing or doesn't work as described, and we correct it.
  • Live re-scan: after you publish, we re-scan the live store within one business day, because apps can behave differently there than in the preview.
  • 60-day fix window: if our re-scan finds automated WCAG A/AA failures left in the theme code of the agreed templates, we fix them at no charge.
  • Optional monitoring ($190/month): a monthly scan and dated report, because theme and app updates can bring issues back. Cancel anytime.
